Back Care Series

Class 1: Balance
Welcome to Yoga for Back Care! For the first class today you will need a Yoga mat, a strap (a towel, belt, or resistance band can work as well), and 1-2 Yoga blocks. A blanket is always helpful if you have one. It can be used to sit on, to place under your knees, or to place under your low back when lying down. Today we talk about finding balance between rest and activity and put that into action in our practice. We will work on subtly strengthening and stretching areas that support our spines.

Class 2: The Nervous System & Pain
For our second class of this series we continue the conversation on our nervous system and pain. The intention is to introduce this concept so that you can be an advocate for your healing in your Yoga practice & daily life. For todays class you will need your Yoga mat, a Yoga strap (or towel, belt, resistance band), and 1-2 blocks. Also a blanket is always an option. Enjoy!

Class 3: Lengthen & Strengthen
The theme of class 3 is Lengthen and Strengthen. We will continue to keep in practice a lot of what we have been doing already and introduce back bends. Yogic back-bends lengthen and strengthen the muscles along the spine. For todays practice you will need your Yoga mat, 1-2 blocks, a blanket if you would like, and space at a wall. If you do not have space at a wall, a chair or couch will work as well! This is for the final pose which is restorative legs up the wall.

Class 4: Rest
The final class of this series! You did it! In this class we make space at the beginning for breath-work and at the end for Yoga Nidra. Yoga Nidra is a guided relaxation practice that deeply nourishes the nervous system. Studies have shown that even a short Yoga Nidra practice can serve as 1-2 hours of sleep for the nervous system therefore supporting our healing on all levels. You will need the same props as the other classes for the movement portion. Feel free to bring in an extra blanket and pillow for the rest portion so that your body is as comfortable as possible.
